Holden revives Peter Brock-style limited edition with his protégé Craig Lowndes.

Star V8 Supercar driver Craig Lowndes has put his name to a special edition Holden Commodore V8, continuing the legacy left by his fallen hero Peter Brock who put his magic touch on thousands of Commodores in the 1980s and 1990s.

Lowndes’ name will appear on a limited edition version of the Holden Commodore SS-V Redline, and each car will be individually numbered, just like the original Brock-enhanced Commodores.

Although Brock Commodores typically were made in batches of 500, the Lowndes Commodores are expected to be much more exclusive.

Holden has not revealed how many Lowndes Commodores will be built, but a confidential bulletin sent out by Holden dealers has indicated they will be built to order.

Photos posted on Facebook by a Holden dealer show each car has a Lowndes badge on the bootlid.

One dealer published on Facebook: “Looking to own a piece of Holden Motorsport History? Holden is releasing a Limited edition Craig Lowndes VF SS-V to celebrate Craig's first drive with Holden 20 Years ago.

“There is only a very limited number of cars being built and they are currently on presale.”

The Lowndes edition V8 gets no power upgrades but it does come loaded with all the available technology in the latest Commodore, including a heads-up display, crash avoidance alert, and keyless go, among other features.

The Holden dealer Facebook post continued: “This limited edition SS-V is fitted with a huge list of factory fitted features that are unique to this SS-V Redline only."

Other visual highlights: the alloy wheels, mirror scalps, fender vents and rear wing are finished in black. There are also three thick black stripes on the bonnet and a flash of black along the doors on both sides.

“Apart from becoming a part of Holden Motorsport History you will also receive money can't buy experiences and have the chance to select your build number (first in first served),” says the Holden dealer notice.

The dealer did not disclose what the “money can’t buy” experience may be, but chances are it’s a day with the five-times Bathurst 1000 winner at a race track, presumably putting the car through its paces.

Holden was yet to respond to media enquiries about the Lowndes Commodore as this story was published, so pricing and exact build number are yet to be confirmed.

The launch of the Lowndes edition Commodore comes after the “Collingwoodore” was unveiled in April to celebrate Holden’s sponsorship of the Collingwood AFL team.

UPDATE

More info just in. We have obtained the following confidential info from a Holden dealer about the Craig Lowndes Commodore. It appears they will be built to order, and Lowndes has reserved Number One. No more than 161 to be built.

* Dealers will have until the end of August to make requests to reserve individual build numbers for customers.

* Reserve build numbers are only available against sold customer orders. ie build number requests will not be accepted for unsold stock vehicles.

* In order to request a reserve build number dealers need to complete the attached form and submit it as indicated.

* A copy of the signed customer order/deposit slip must be submitted with the application.

* Build number 1 is not available as it is allocated to Craig Lowndes.

* The last build number (notionally #161) in the sequence is also being held back by Holden and is not available to order.

* If there are multiple requests for a particular build number then all those requests will go into a random draw to be conducted by Craig.

* Dealers will be advised during September of their success or otherwise in securing particular build numbers on behalf of their customers.

* Please note that the cars will not necessarily be built in number sequence.

* The numbered build plate will be affixed to the front suspension tower under the hood.

* A duplicate of the build plate will be mounted with the framed owner’s certificate and mailed to the Dealer for presentation to the customer at the time of delivery.

They are asking for 3 choices.

Timing is as follows:

August
Dealers will have until the end of August to make requests to reserve individual build numbers for customers (see section below and accompanying application form)

September
Holden will order the vehicles on behalf of Dealers

October
Production and deliveries commence

Dec
Production ends (subject to total volume/demand)

Cheers

Sounds good but Brock done all the work and on all of the car as well as just puting his name on the car.No power upgrade is a let down and only extra bling and gismos added to the car,Sorry but not worth it.
I wonder how many will go for the number 5 built.lol.
Iam sure it will look good but for the price you want more power as well to make it special.
If your going to build a car like this you should just throw every performance option at it like they used to do and make the car a one of the kind monster.lol.
